What Is Pixel Pitch — and Which Do You Need?

The Most Misunderstood Spec in LED Video Walls — Explained Simply

Every LED video wall has a pixel pitch — written as "P1.8", "P2.5", "P4" and so on. The number is the distance in millimetres between each LED pixel. Here is the only rule you need to remember:

The P number = the minimum viewing distance in metres.

P1.8 looks seamless from 1.8m away. P2.5 from 2.5m. P4 from 4m. Stand closer than the P number and you may see individual pixels. Stand at or beyond it and the image is perfect.

Q. What is the difference between P1.8 and P2.5?

P1.8 has smaller gaps between pixels — higher resolution, best for viewing distances under 2.5m. P2.5 has slightly larger gaps — still high resolution, best from 2.5m+. P2.5 is typically 15–25% less expensive than P1.8. For most retail and office applications with viewers at 3m+, P2.5 delivers excellent quality at a lower cost. P1.8 is recommended for boardrooms, control rooms and premium retail where viewers approach the screen closely.

Q. What is GOB LED and do I need it?

GOB (Glue-on-Board) is a protective transparent epoxy resin applied over the LED modules. It makes the screen significantly more resistant to physical impact, moisture and dust — without affecting image quality. For indoor LED video walls, planning permission is not required.
